Sharon Rea     “Trunk Show”   Samples of her quilts and family quilts

Sharon has quilting in her blood.  Following the example set by her mother and aunts, Sharon has been sewing clothes, crafts and quilts most of her life.  Not only does she have a marvelous collection of quilts that she has made, she also has inherited quilts from her mother and aunts.  Her collection is varied and the workmanship on all of them is inspiring.  She was brought to a PQA meeting in 1990 and she says that after that first meeting she was completely hooked.  We are honored indeed to that she agreed to let us display some of her quilts on Saturday June 30th.

For the past few years, Sharon and her husband Bill designed quilt patterns for the PQA to make.  Sharon came up with the ideas that she wanted to include in the quilts.  Bill, using his drafting skills, drew the patterns to scale and was able to give us the correct dimensions. Then Sharon took over and told us how to go about making the quilt.  The patterns have all been wonderful – including the Block of the Month quilt for 2012. (On display in quilt show)  Bill passed away in June 2012 and he will be sorely missed not only by his wife and family but by the quilting community in New Mexico and Texas.

You will see in Sharon’s quilts the eye she has for color and form and her insistence on each stitch being finished perfectly.  Quilting is her passion – or perhaps you might call it an obsession!
