Christmas Traditions from Around the World 2009

2nd Annual Christmas Traditions From Around the World

The Museum once again celebrated the different holiday traditions from 14 different countries on December 1, 2009.  Volunteers made and presented foods and traditions from many different countries:  USA, China, Colombia, England, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Lebanon, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine, Scotland, and Spain.

Entertainment this year was provided by Mary Jo Chadwick who read The Christmas Carol and The Night Before Christmas, Doug Day who performed Christmas carols on his guitar, and Accidental Harmony, an a cappella group who dressed up in Dickens-era costumes and roamed around the Museum singing Christmas carols.

Despite the inclement weather, close to 400 people attended this event where they were able to taste the foods and learn about different traditions of many different countries, hear the sounds of the holidays, and see the beautifully decorated Christmas trees placed all over the Museum.  Once again, Santa was even able to take time out of his holiday preparations to visit with our guests.  Finally, we had a nice selection of door prizes from Ashely Furniture, Uptown Antiques, Staples, Walgreens, John Lathrop, Bozena and Leszek Kaczan, and Lupe and Dennis Johnston.

Thanks to everyone for their help and support.  This evening would not have been the same without all of our wonderful volunteers.  Keep checking back for more information on next year’s event and let us know if you are interested in participating!!
